En pleine pand\u00e9mie, une nouvelle institution artistique a ouvert ses portes \u00e0 New York l’\u00e9t\u00e9 dernier : L’Amant Art Foundation par SO – IL est un incubateur culturel, offrant un refuge cach\u00e9 dans un quartier encore assez industriel de East Williamsburg \/ Brooklyn.<\/p>\n

Quatre b\u00e2timents – trois nouveaux et un entrep\u00f4t transform\u00e9 – forment un campus artistique de 2 000 m2 avec des galeries, une salle de spectacle, une librairie et un caf\u00e9, des bureaux et des studios d’art pour leurs artistes r\u00e9sidents. Deux paires de b\u00e2timents sont reli\u00e9es par une cour, l’une d’entre elles, verdoyante, est situ\u00e9e entre les studios d’art et la salle de spectacle, l’autre, plus urbaine, comporte des tables devant le caf\u00e9 et la librairie de la fondation.<\/p>\n

Derri\u00e8re, au 932 Grand Street, se trouve le plus grand et le seul b\u00e2timent existant du campus, qui abritait autrefois un atelier de marbre et qui abrite d\u00e9sormais un autre espace d’exposition, le caf\u00e9 et la librairie. Il a \u00e9galement re\u00e7u une nouvelle peau, faite de briques d’argile beige qui montrent leur face arri\u00e8re rainur\u00e9e li\u00e9e \u00e0 la production. Une cl\u00f4ture semi-ouverte en profil\u00e9s d’acier cr\u00e9e une autre cour qui offre une entr\u00e9e de l’autre c\u00f4t\u00e9 du bloc et sert de tampon vers la Grand Street, tr\u00e8s fr\u00e9quent\u00e9e.<\/p>\n

Les deux b\u00e2timents du c\u00f4t\u00e9 sud, au 306 Maujer Street, se concentrent sur le programme de r\u00e9sidence, qui s’adresse aux artistes internationaux en milieu de carri\u00e8re et aux artistes \u00e9tablis, qui n’ont jamais expos\u00e9 \u00e0 New York auparavant. Le premier b\u00e2timent abrite quatre studios d’artistes \u00e9clair\u00e9s par la lumi\u00e8re du jour \u00e0 l’\u00e9tage sup\u00e9rieur, ainsi que des espaces communs et une biblioth\u00e8que pour eux \u00e0 l’\u00e9tage inf\u00e9rieur. Les deux b\u00e2timents ont une fa\u00e7ade en b\u00e9ton textur\u00e9 coul\u00e9 sur place de 20 cm es, qui a \u00e9t\u00e9 cr\u00e9\u00e9e en deux coul\u00e9es seulement : Les premiers 2.3 m et ensuite 7 m au dessus.<\/p>\n

Des chemins en b\u00e9ton textur\u00e9 offrent de nouveaux itin\u00e9raires publics \u00e0 travers le bloc et la cour jusqu’au deuxi\u00e8me b\u00e2timent nomm\u00e9 G\u00e9za, qui offre un espace de r\u00e9p\u00e9tition pour les artistes r\u00e9sidents ainsi qu’une programmation publique.<\/p>\n

Ce projet de 40 millions de dollars financ\u00e9 par des fonds priv\u00e9s a \u00e9t\u00e9 con\u00e7u par le bureau d’architecture SO-IL (Solid Objectives-Idenburg Liu), bas\u00e9 \u00e0 Brooklyn, dont les partenaires fondateurs Jing Liu et Florian Isenburg se sont rencontr\u00e9s au Japon alors qu’ils travaillaient pour SANAA. Il s’agit de leur premier b\u00e2timent autonome \u00e0 New York et il a remport\u00e9 le prix Best of Design de The Architect’s Newspaper en 2021.<\/p>\n

Amant est un endroit id\u00e9al pour d\u00e9couvrir de nouvelles \u0153uvres d’art et tra\u00eener dans les cours relaxantes – alors rendez-vous \u00e0 East Williamsburg\/Brooklyn pour d\u00e9couvrir ce joyau architectural cach\u00e9 dans son environnement industriel !<\/p>\n
