Il a pour vocation de rendre l&rsquo;astronomie plus accessible au public par un traitement vivant et fascinant.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Con\u00e7u par les architectes Bernhardt et Partner de Darmstadt, le b\u00e2timent mod\u00e9lise un syst\u00e8me stellaire binaire, dans lequel chaque \u00e9toile transmet sa masse \u00e0 l\u2019autre jusqu\u2019\u00e0 explosion de la plus lourde, qui se transforme en supernova en produisant plus de lumi\u00e8re que l\u2019ensemble des milliards d&rsquo;\u00e9toiles de notre galaxie.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">La transposition d&rsquo;un \u00e9v\u00e9nement naturel aussi gigantesque en langage architectural ne va pas sans difficult\u00e9s. Bernhardt et Partner, d\u00e9j\u00e0 auteurs de la Maison de l&rsquo;Astronomie et du Centre International de Formation Sup\u00e9rieure EMBL d\u2019Heidelberg, ont puis\u00e9 dans un vaste r\u00e9servoir d&rsquo;exp\u00e9rience. En effet, sa structure techniquement tr\u00e8s complexe est faite d\u2019une coque de murs incurv\u00e9s tri-dimensionnels et comporte deux noyaux, chacun compos\u00e9 d&rsquo;une coque int\u00e9rieure et d&rsquo;une coque ext\u00e9rieure reli\u00e9es par un syst\u00e8me de rampe. Le rez-de-chauss\u00e9e de la supernova double \u00e9toile sert de compl\u00e9ment spatial au b\u00e2timent expressionniste tardif construit entre 1976 et 1980 par les berlinois Fehling et Gogel.
