La construction architecturale est en plein essor \u00e0 Manhattan mais aussi dans les quartiers p\u00e9riph\u00e9riques de New York. Un bon moyen de d\u00e9couvrir l\u2019architecture nouvelle new-yorkaise d\u00e9ploy\u00e9e sur rives de Brooklyn et du Queens est de circuler sur l’East River \u00e0 bord d’un ferry.<\/p>\n

En traversant l\u2019East River au sud de Roosevelt Island, on aper\u00e7oit le Four Freedoms Park<\/strong> (1974\/2012) de Louis Kahn, le Cornell Tech Campus<\/strong> (2017) tout r\u00e9cemment ouvert et ses b\u00e2timents \u00e9co-\u00e9nerg\u00e9tiques sign\u00e9s Morphosis et Weiss\/Manfredi, ainsi que le premier gratte-ciel passif au monde de Handel Architects.<\/p>\n

Sur la rive de Long Island City, Queens, la (Biblioth\u00e8que) Hunters Point Community Library<\/strong> de Steven Holl prend enfin forme, compl\u00e9tant la premi\u00e8re phase du d\u00e9veloppement de Hunters Point South<\/strong> (2013\/15) avec des b\u00e2timents r\u00e9sidentiels de SHoP Architects, une \u00e9cole con\u00e7ue par FXCollaborative et un nouveau parc sur berges de Weiss\/Manfredi & Thomas Balsley.<\/p>\n

Plus au sud, derri\u00e8re les vestiges du littoral industriel du nord de Brooklyn, l\u2019architecture nouvelle de New York se traduit par une constellation de trois h\u00f4tels ouverts il y a peu : le Wythe<\/strong> (Morris Adjmi, 2012), le William Vale<\/strong> (Albo Liberis, 2016) et le Williamsburg<\/strong> (Michaelis Boyd, 2017). Tous offrent des vues \u00e9poustouflantes depuis leur bar sur le toit.<\/p>\n

Le point d\u2019int\u00e9r\u00eat suivant se trouve juste au nord du pont Williamsburg. L\u00e0, le SHoP et Field Operations transforment la vaste terrain de l’ancienne raffinerie sucri\u00e8re Domino<\/strong> en un projet \u00e0 usage mixte avec des \u00ab donut \u00bb buildings et un nouveau parc sur berges (2017-2020), tandis qu’au sud du pont, ODA construit trois tours d\u00e9cal\u00e9es (leur marque de fabrique), au 416-420 Kent Avenue<\/strong> (2018\/19). Un peu plus loin, l\u00e0 o\u00f9 l’East River forme un coude \u00e0 hauteur des Chantiers Navals de Brooklyn, s\u2019\u00e9l\u00e8ve au milieu des anciennes cales s\u00e8ches un nouvel immeuble de bureaux appel\u00e9 Dock 72<\/strong>. Ce projet sign\u00e9 S9 Architecture est presque achev\u00e9 (2018).<\/p>\n

Enfin, \u00e0 DUMBO, juste avant de passer sous le Manhattan Bridge, l\u2019architecture nouvelle new-yorkaise se distingue encore, avec l’\u00e9l\u00e9gant nouvel immeuble r\u00e9sidentiel d’Alloy One John<\/strong> (2017), puis d’anciens entrep\u00f4ts de tabac et de caf\u00e9 reconvertis de fa\u00e7on innovante en b\u00e2timents culturels et \u00e0 usage mixte (Empire Stores<\/strong> – Studio V & S9 Architecture, 2017 & St. Ann’s Warehouse<\/strong>, Marvel Architects, 2015), tous situ\u00e9s dans le Brooklyn Bridge Park<\/strong> nouvellement con\u00e7u par Michael van Valkenburgh (2010-2018).<\/p>\n
